House Tour, Part 2

Here are a few more rooms that, while not finished, are at least presentable.

Morning room chandelier

This is my biggest steal so far for the house.  It was originally $189.  I saw it on clearance for $89, but still wasn't sure what I wanted for that room.  One day while wandering through Lowe's, I saw it sitting, fully assembled, on a shelf in a completely unrelated aisle.  It was marked down to $47.  I made sure it could be returned if it didn't work.  We only needed to add a $3 part to make it work and there it is!

Another view of the lovely chandelier

I opted not to take a picture of DH hanging the light.  That vaulted ceiling is pretty high.  He ended up putting his 6 foot step ladder on top of our table in order to reach.  Don't try this at home, kids!

Our family room furniture finally arrived.  It took almost 10 weeks!

You can't tell in this picture, but the feet of the two sofas are two different colors of wood.
I'm trying to decide how much it bugs me.

I love our fireplace!

This sofa sleeper was supposed to go in the finished basement area under the morning room.  However, I failed to take into account the small hallway that contains the basement door. There was no way for the movers to swing a 92" couch through the hall and doorway.  So, there it sits in our living room.  It will probably end up in our bonus room as it is not what I envisioned in my living room.  But, it works for now.

That computer armoire houses the kids' computer so that it is out in the open.

Powder room

Those two pictures are held by the first two nails to be put into the house by us.
I like to wait until I am absolutely sure where I want something before putting holes in the wall.
So, we still have lots of plain walls!

Just a little corner stand to try to draw attention away from the large vent cover.
Tomorrow begins some major deconstruction and reconstruction on the house.  They will be removing the columns to replace the stoop, repairing windows, removing the bathtub to determine why it's creaking (which involves removing tile) and fix the squeak in the kitchen floor.  I'm trying to remain calm :)

  1. Thanks for posting your pics! Its looking good. I love your chandelier! We put a ceiling fan in the morning room and while its nice for moving air around, I'm not a big fan. HA! Yours looks so much more sophisticated!

    1. Thanks! At least you can go out on your beautiful deck and not have to look at the ceiling fan. We're still stuck with the lively safety rail across our door :)

  2. I would make them fix the couch legs. If it doesn't bother you now, it will later. They will probably just bring te correct ones out and change them for you.

  4. That sucks about all your issues. I pray there won't be that much to do on our house. I wouldn't know how to keep organized with moving in and worrying about when someone is coming to fix something. I hope everything works out!

  6. Oh Rach! my poor friend. First, i LOVE the chandelier and the awesome deal you got on it! Good eyes! and then the couch legs, It would bother me. but its a big deal to get it fixed. maybe you could stain them? just make sure its VERY dry before you flip the couches back over on your carpet. and then i love that you and i have the same way of thinking. we would do the same thing with the Kid's computer(s) and also i am that way in regards to putting holes in the wall! love you, friend!

    1. My kids like to ask now and then when they can have a tv or computer in their rooms. The answer is always when they are in college. Until then, it will stay right where I can see and they know that I could walk by at any moment. Nice to know I'm not alone. J's iPod is linked to mine and he cannot download apps, watch YouTube or use safari without me entering in a password. We tried restricting to certain ratings and some very questionable content was still on the home page. I will be callig about the couch legs. There was just too much going on this week. Just wait til you hear it all.

    1. We only needed another $2 part to make it work. We cleaned it up (I think it was the floor model) and it works/looks great. I love a good deal!

  9. Awesome deal on the chandelier! Everything is looking great! The furniture legs would bug me too but I'm sure no one would actually notice.

    1. Kathy, the truffle field tile is beautiful. I absolutely love it and it is one of my favorite upgrades we made. There are no pink undertones. It is a mixture of many shades of brown. If you would like some other pics of it, just let me know. Good luck with your build :)

  11. I'm just jealous of your arch. I wanted arches!

  12. I'm so glad to read in the comments that the Truffle Field tile is beautiful! We just chose that for the master bathroom in our Florence. It is so hard to judge how a small sample will look when fully installed.

    1. You did get a steal if you consider the original price! It's finally getting dark enough around dinner time to actually use the chandelier. Our morning room is so bright that we hardly ever turn on the light.

  14. Were did you get that corner stand? We are building a Verona now and I want to put a stand in that same corner but haven't had much luck finding anything at any of my local stores.

    1. The corner stand is from Pier 1, but we bought it 10 years ago for an odd corner we had in another house. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I would check hayneedle.com. They have a lot of furniture and some good sales. Good luck :)

  17. Hi Rachel,
What size are your ceiling fans? I have some picked out but my husband thinks they are too big. I just need a second opinion. Are the 52" ones too big for the bedrooms and or morning room?

    Thanks,
    Linda-D

    1. Hi Linda,

Our family room fan is 60", the master bedroom and bonus room fans are 52" and the other bedrooms are 48". If you go to http://www.lightingdirect.com/indoor-ceiling-fans/c81, there is a chart that shows the recommended size for each room. We opted for a chandelier in the morning room. We had it wired for a fan in case we change our minds.

    2. Great, thank you! Do you think a 52" will work in the morning room? It's such a weird space to compute because its open to the kitchen and family room
