A New Addition!

We spent 8.5 years in our last house debating whether we wanted a deck or a patio.  Needless to say, when we moved out, the construction steps were all that we had! We swore that would not happen in this house.  We were leaning towards a deck all along, but had a few doubts along the way.  We met with around 7 deck builders before making our decision.  This was done back in April.

When we chose our deck builder, he told us that it would probably be mid-June before they would start.  He filed for the permit right away, though, in case he was able to start sooner.  We got a call last Wednesday saying that they would start on Monday.  The weather looked great, so he thought they would be done midday on Thursday.  Well, of course the weather didn't hold, but they have almost finished.  Final cleanup will commence tomorrow.  Without further ado, here is our deck!

The completed deck!
Notice the stairs come down straight and at an angle.
The deck builder suggested that because we wanted a wider staircase.
I think it looks so much better than just wide steps.

  4. Love it. Love the dual stairs. This is really a great looking deck. Thanks for sharing. You are giving us expensive ideas, Rachel!

So you met with 7 builders, what made you decide to go with the builder you selected? They really did a great job. Do they quote per square foot or job or how in general if you don't mind sharing? Thanks.

    1. We chose the builder we did based on his professionalism, presentation, design ideas and warranty. There were a few I met that did not impress me at all. We chose Alex from Deckmasters. Their offices are in Parma, so they service all of NEO. They have done some beautiful decks, both composite and wood. I highly recommend that you contact him if you decide to add a deck.

    2. Thank you very much. We will be contacting them for an estimate whenever this thing finishes. We will likely not do it right away simply because we'll be broke, but at least we'll know how much we need to budget for it, or if we should fuhgeddaboudit!

    1. Thanks, Jason. We went with #1 pressure treated wood for all materials except for the balusters. We received estimates for wood decks from $4700 to $7700. We are in Ohio and chose to go with Deckmasters. We chose them based on design, warranty and professionalism. They did not disappoint. If they are in your area, I highly suggest giving them a call.
