Morning Room...A Work in Progress

We have finally put some paint on the walls!  As previously mentioned, we took advantage of the Sherwin Williams' color consultation and 40% off sale.  I started with the morning room as painting it would not disrupt our life too much (the kids mostly eat at the peninsula anyways), and I wanted to see if I liked the paint.  Would it really be worth the extra cost of the paint versus Valspar, Behr, etc.?

We selected the Duration paint in the Matte finish in Spiced Cider.  It took two coats (as planned) and four days (not planned).  I pretty much just painted one wall at a time.  Between all our activities, that's all I had time to do.

Without further ado, here are some pictures:
Before
After

You'll notice that we didn't paint the window returns.  I liked the contrast of the white paint there.  We plan to add white wood blinds.  I originally didn't plan to do blinds, but with the curtains closed, it seems too dark.  I will get tiebacks for the curtains.  I also have another rod and set of curtains to hang on the wall with the french doors.

Finally, we think we've found our new table.  It's from Ashley Furniture.
It has two leaves to extend up to 100" and will seat 10.

I think I prefer these side chairs.  There are also two servers:

It was definitely the most difficult room to paint.  We only have a 6' stepladder, and given the fact that I'm only 5'4", it was quite a challenge painting the wall adjoining the kitchen that is vaulted to 13'!  But, I am so happy to have some color on the walls.  On to the next room...

  1. Looks beautiful, and I LOVE the color with the drapes! We just painted our morning room last week and also painted the window returns white. The contrast was nice with the color we chose (SW Sensible Hue, which is a medium gray), and will reflect the sunlight better than a dark color. Just an FYI - I've always used Behr paint and always needed 2 coats. The morning room was the 3rd room we've painted using SW, and we've only needed 1 coat! Amazing! The difference may be that we used SW Super Paint and not Duration; not sure. It is way more expensive than the Behr I'm used to buying but, with the coupons and sales, and only needing one coat, it has been worth it. That doesn't even take into consideration the saving of wear and tear on our almost-60-year-old bodies climbing up and down ladders when we only have to do it once! P.S. I have table/chair/server envy -- they are just awesome!

    1. Lol! I was whining about my 36 year old body going up and down the ladder! The paint covered well, and in most places, I probably could have gotten away with one coat. However, since I still have little ones at home and will for quite awhile, I like having two coats for durability.

    1. Thanks, Nadase. The dining set is completely different from what we thought we wanted. We were going for an espresso set to compliment the espresso furniture in our family room and provide a contrast with the cognac cabinets. This wasn't even a set I thought DH would like, but as soon as we saw it, we both fell in love. Hoping to order it soon!

    1. I love color, but it was hubby's desire to have some sort of orange somewhere. Our accent pillows on our family room couch contain that color and we knew we wanted to use it somewhere. The morning room was the perfect place for it.

  7. Love your selection for the Ashley dining set, its colors match your paint scheme. Did you go to the Ashley furniture store or did you look online? Do you have pricing for that one and the other two items, or links? Thank you much!

    1. Here is a link for the furniture: http://www.colemanfurniture.com/whitesburg-signature-design-by-ashley.html. It is very reasonably priced. We saw it in a store while we were out of town, but we don't have one locally.

  9. We had a similar color in our dining room until I had to go neutral for future renters. Love it! I vote for no curtain tiebacks. I love the way they look full and flowy. The white furniture will look fab with the orange.
