To Build or Not To Build? That is the question...

After dealing with a long a commute for the past 18 months, we decided to move closer to DH's job. Though we love our neighborhood and all our friends, our family being together is more important. So, we started looking. Our search online led us to Ryan Homes. Our first night, we visited a Venice model and then the Naples. We loved the Naples and DH went to look at a community near his work that was offering a quick build on the Naples. However, the lots were tiny.

We went back to the drawing board. We visited resale homes, none of which were what we wanted. Our current home was a former builder's model and we really wanted another new construction. So, it was back to the community that offered the Naples. We were pretty set that that was the house we wanted. Until, our sales rep showed us the Verona. It had everything we wanted and with the incentives they were offering, it fit into our budget. We were able to see a newly completed model in the area and, upon first viewing, DH said it was too big. The model was unfurnished and felt overwhelming. Three days later, he said it was his favorite house.

We listed our house for sale, and on August 30, we signed our contingency contract. Now, we just wait for a buyer!

The picture is a Verona B without the bonus room. Our house will have another peak over the garage, but I don't have a picture of that.

  1. I'm unfamiliar with the Verona. Will your home have the stones as pictured? If I had an option I would choose stones over brick; I think it's gorgeous.

  2. We are going to add the stone. We were just going to do siding, but the stone just kept calling me :), so we will add that. We haven't done our exterior selections yet, but I'm really excited about getting the stone.

  3. Congratulations and welcome to our ever growing Ryan Homes bloggin eFamily!!! Feel free to ask questions, share ideas and frustrations, but above all else enjoy the process. We love answering questions and sharing ideas and sharing in the emotions of the building process and believe me...it can be quite a rollercoaster ride...just know that your eFamily is always here for you....Good Luck and here's hoping that your current house sells quickly so you can get the build process underway!!!

  4. @BD - Thanks for the welcome. I have been reading the blogs for a few months as we started looking at Ryan in mid-July. I have learned so much! Thanks for sharing all your insight through the process. I just can't wait to get started on our house.

  5. Also forgot to mention and hopefully your sales rep explained it, but because you have a contingency contract the lot you may have picked is not definitely yours...if someone else comes along and wants that lot they can have it...just wanted to throw that out there in case your sales rep did not...

  6. @BD - Thanks for looking out for us. Our sales rep was very clear at explaining the contingency. We have a couple other choices of lots that we like, but we are also prepared to lift the contingency if needed. We will be given notice and have 72 hours to either lift the contingency or move to another lot.

  7. You have a very good Sales Rep then...one of the other bloggers got burned with the contingency and they weren't told all the potential ramifications...they had to move to a different lot, then couldn't do the elevation they wanted, and then ended up getting bumped again...that's what these blogs are all about though...sharing information.

  8. We've learned so much from the blogs. We started reading for awhile before we decided to go with Ryan. We asked a lot of questions about the contingency as it was around the time the other blogger got burned. Our SR has been awesome.
