In Love with Handscraped Hickory

To recap, we were able to pick new flooring when it was determined that the water damage and defects in the laminate indicated that the entire foyer/hall/powder room needed to be replaced.  We selected Armstrong Hardscapes Handscraped Hickory in Candy Apple.  Here is the flooring before (Armstrong Illusions Native Cherry laminate):

Here is the after:

Goodbye, squeaky, shiny laminate.  Hello, beautiful, quiet hardwood!  I could stare at it all day.  It is gorgeous.

  1. Wow, that's really pretty! My husband and I are going back and forth on whether to get laminate or hardwood. We have 2 big dogs and I'm afraid they will tear up hardwood, but it sure does look good.

    1. One of my neighbors has 2 German Shepherds and she said that they have scratched up her hardwood floors.

    2. Go for Hickory, and choose a handscraped one. I have Hickory floors and they don't even show dust.

  2. Looks great! Our maple floors are all scratched and cupping from the install and inproper covering when they were put in...I bet they'll have to all be torn out and replaced before we close.

    Yours look amazing though!

  4. Your hardwood looks great. I went with the basic Bruce Cherry. I really like your wide planks.

  7. Your floors look fantastic!! I believe the hand scraped is much better for endurance. My old job used the hand scraped and you could not see any scratches or markings from the thousands of customers visiting the store. Nice choice.

  8. LOVE the new floors. Great choice indeed. Those floors will hold up so much better than Oak floors would.
We did Hickory floors too and I absolutely love them. So easy to maintain too. (I sweep daily but only mop twice a week just for the sake of it. They look stunning at all times) http://building-a-home-moon-pa.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-big-reveal.html

  9. Hi Rachel, I'm so glad you found my blog! I actually used this post of yours during our Rite Rug meeting. We ended up selecting the handscraped wood flooring as well, but a different shade. Our rep drove me crazy at Rite Rug because she had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned "handscraped hickory" based on your post. I guess she was a new rep. Thanks for sharing, I definitely appreciate it! http://sweethomecarolinas.blogspot.com/

    1. Because we were selecting replacement flooring (and probably because I hadn't completely lost it regarding the plumbing issues that precipitated the flooring change), we were allowed to select flooring outside of the typical Ryan offerings as Rite Rug had a sale on it at that time. After a few months, I am still in love with the flooring. It never looks dirty, and everyone who sees it comments on how beautiful it is. I'm sure you'll love yours as well!
